If you think you can't have a voice with your senators...well, to be straight to the point, you're wrong. In fact, your voice and encouragement/discouragement often has a big affect on the House and Senate. When you tell your Senator and Representative what you want and what you stand for, they can make decisions that will better their district because YOU talked to them about what is important to you and your family and friends.
Sending letters is an AWESOME way to do this. I encourage you all to send a letter to you Senator/Representative once a month encouraging them and sharing with them.
HEY! THAT'S A GOOD IDEA! *pats self* ;p I'm going to try that!
Rally Day is a GREAT way for home schoolers to show the Senators what home schooling has done for them and what kind of impact its made on their life.
I like Rally Day. Sometimes its a tad disappointing, because UCA serves the Senators and Representatives lunch. Its a privilege and I love doing it, but sometimes I would rather actually MEET with them and talk to them (which is the point of Rally Day, btw...).
But it's cool. We've served lunch for about three or four years now. They made a sign for us and they all know us as the "singing servers". *squeal* So I guess that counts as being a "voice" huh?
You. No, not you...You...Yeah, you right there - reading this. I have a message for you. You have "rights" but you also have "responsibilities". They go hand in hand. You can't have one without the others. So, since you have so many rights and often exercise them - exercise your responsibilities and thank and encourage your Congressmen.
Shake on it.
*shakes hands all around*
Now go!

I LOVE RALLY DAY! It's great to be able to show the Senators what homeschoolers are made of. It's also a blessing to prove to them they we aren't "weird" and to shed a light on the lies they have been told. Nice post sis! I like the letter idea! What would this letter include do you think?
I don't know...maybe something like...Hey, you made a good decision last week and we are happy. Or thanks for being pro-life. Thanks for fighting for our rights. And for the few conservative constitutionalists, we can say, "thanks for actually reading the document and fighting for what our father's believed in."
???
Aaron Academy is serving lunch, too! We're doing some king of leaders' lunchen thingy. Rally Day is fun! Kind of boring at times, but fun! And the speaker is Greg Harris... ring any bells? Perhaps you know him as the dad of Alex, Brett, and Josh! Yep, that guy! I'm so pumped so meet him tomorrow! I won't hear him speak (stupid responsiblilties of preparing lunch), but he'll probably come eat with us. YES! Josh Harris' books are like the BEST! Anyway, maybe I'll see you girls there tomorrow!
WHOA! That's cool. So where do you guys do that? We do it in the Mezzanine area. But up until around 10 we sit and listen to the music and announcements and announcements...lol. That is really cool. So why is he coming? Don't they live in WA? What bearing does he have on TN? Even though that is really cool hes coming.
And where is he speaking? I thought he was doing a little seminar AFTER the day...is he actually speaking during the performance thing....or whatever you want to call it?
I know that I'll miss his speaking because I have to prepare lunch, so I assume before lunch. He speaks around the country, doing seminars and such. He spoke at Lipscomb a year ago.
We're preparing lunch for homeschool program leaders and people like that. It's in the Tennessee Towers.
I get it now. So, did you get to meet Mr. Harris? How did it go?
I never got to. He didn't come over to the Tower and I barely left it. It was awesome to run into you, though! I just wish we had more time to talk lol.
OH! That's a bummer. I'm sorry. I bet he was totally swamped with people...so it probably made it hard for him to get around.
Yeah, it was. I find it odd/hilarious/cool that we keep running into each other on various levels.
Yeah, I barely even thought about him. I was too busy to care lol.
It is weird! This is like the second time, right? But yeah, I mean, if you would've applied for MY CFA instead of the Gallatin one, we'd see each other a lot more often... ;)
*laughs* Yeah, I suppose you're right...
